WHY I HAVE CHOSEN A CAREER IN FINANCIAL PLANNING:

For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for building, whether it’s restoring old cars, remodeling houses, or developing a financial plan, I love the challenge and satisfaction I find in designing and building.

Often, clients show up in my office with a box of “financial parts” and I have the privilege of sorting through them to determine what is missing, what should be replaced, and what can be used to build a financial plan that accomplishes their goals. The technical skills required of a financial planner along with the creative flexibility needed to assemble the many parts of a financial plan continually challenge me.

Since 2003, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of families and businesses. Over that time, I have developed some wonderful client relationships and I find great satisfaction in knowing that I have helped many of my clients make financial decisions that have lifelong positive impact.

MY FAMILY AND I:

I married my college sweetheart Monica in January of 2007. In 2008, we returned to my home town of Valley Center, California with plans to raise our family. Since we have moved to “the country”, we have added our son Walker and our daughter Trevisan to our family.

Both Monica and I consider ourselves athletes (I am taking some liberty in using the term these days!). Monica is a professional softball instructor who does her best to keep me in shape. In our free time, we enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain biking, off road motor sports with our family in local deserts, boating on local lakes and rivers, never-ending home improvement projects…thanks to Monica, and participating in activities with our church.

WHY I HAVE CHOSEN A CAREER IN FINANCIAL PLANNING:

I am a native South Carolinian who relocated to San Diego in 2000.  I am the son of depression era parents who instilled in me a strong work ethic.  I counsel my clients to live below their means, eliminate consumer debt, continually save and invest, diversify their investments and insure those assets that they cannot afford to lose.

I began my career in public accounting at Price Waterhouse in 1983.  After obtaining my CPA, I moved into private industry holding several positions as assistant controller and controller for several large privately owned and publicly traded companies.

In 2000, I moved to San Diego and began a financial planning practice.  I chose to utilize my financial background and expertise to help individuals and families make informed decisions about their finances.  I wanted the opportunity to help people answer pressing questions such as:

  • When will I be able to retire?

  • How much is enough to retire?

  • How much do I need to invest each year to be able to retire?

  • How should I invest my money?

  • How much can I withdraw each year from my retirement accounts without running out of money before I die?

  • What type of insurance coverage do I need in case I get sick or die?

  • How can I plan my estate so I can give generously to causes I care about and not run out of money before I die?

  • How can I do all this and minimize my tax liability?

MY FAMILY AND I:

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife Holly, family, and friends.  I also enjoy riding my bicycle, swimming in the ocean, and serving at church.

WHY I HAVE CHOSEN A CAREER IN FINANCIAL PLANNING:

I am a born and raised San Diegan who has lived in Escondido my entire life and even went to San Pasqual High School right here in Escondido.  All four of my grandparents immigrated to this country from Fascist Italy after World II with the dream of starting a better life in the United States. Growing up around them taught me the life lessons of perseverance, hard work, and most importantly instilled in me the values of furthering yourself through the American Dream. I was drawn to financial planning as I have always had a passion for finance, as well as utilizing my incredibly outgoing personality to help others.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the top of my class at San Diego State with a degree in Financial Planning in just 3 years. From there I am currently attending the University of San Diego, where I am earning a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree. I have always had a huge passion for the stock market growing up and have always admired the investing philosophy of Warren Buffett and how “The stock market can be used as a vehicle to transfer wealth from the impatient to the patient.” One of my biggest passions is to be able to promote financial literacy amongst our clients, and most importantly contribute to the great culture at RED Seven by allowing us to utilize our financial knowledge to help clients.

MY FAMILY AND I:

Some of my hobbies include lifting weights, playing golf, going kayaking, watching the NFL and MLB (Go Padres), listening to 60s and 70s oldies, and hanging out with my friends and family. Most of my friends and family would describe me as one of the most outgoing people they know who is incredibly people-oriented. I speak fluent Italian, and especially enjoy going to Italy every few years with our family to see our extended family outside of Rome and in Sicily. I am incredibly close with my brothers Ferdinando and Salvatore, and we all enjoy hanging out together. I have been a parishioner at the Immaculata Church at USD for the last 12 years and have found a great community within the church.  I am looking forward to continuing a great career in financial planning, putting our clients first.
